Tynemouth is three miles south of our base, and a town we work in week in, week out. From the Georgian and early-Victorian townhouses on Front Street, through the substantial Victorian ship-owners’ houses around the village, to the 1960s and modern executive homes set back from the coast, we’ve installed air conditioning across most of what NE30 has to offer.

The housing stock here is some of the most distinctive in the North East. Our engineers know it well, which means a more accurate quote at the survey and a cleaner install on the day.

Air conditioning installation in Tynemouth homes

Tynemouth is one of the most architecturally varied towns in the region. Most installs fall into four patterns.

Georgian and early-Victorian townhouses around Front Street and the village.

Tall townhouses with high ceilings, deep room volumes and limited external space at the rear. AC sizing here is often higher than the room footprint suggests because of the ceiling heights, and outdoor unit positioning needs careful planning.

Grade II listed properties

A meaningful proportion of properties in Tynemouth village are Grade II listed, which significantly affects what we can and can’t do externally. We’ll always check listing status at the survey and tell you straight before any work is committed.

Victorian ship-owners' houses and substantial period villas

Generously proportioned period homes around the wider village area benefit from multi-split installations covering multiple rooms from a single outdoor unit. The Bosch Climate 5000 multi-split is often the right choice here.

Two things specific to Tynemouth we always factor in at the survey:

Conservation area and listed-building status

Tynemouth Village Conservation Area covers the heart of the village and many of the most desirable streets. A meaningful proportion of properties here are also Grade II listed. We check listing status and conservation boundaries before recommending a unit and outdoor position, and we’ll be honest if a particular property’s protections rule out an external install.

Coastal exposure

Tynemouth sits directly on the North Sea coast, and outdoor units here see salt air. The Bosch Climate range is built with corrosion-resistant coatings suited to coastal locations. We position outdoor units away from direct salt spray where the property layout allows, and recommend an annual service to keep performance and longevity on track.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Does air conditioning work in winter?

Yes. Modern air conditioning systems operate as heat pumps, extracting heat from the outside air and delivering it inside. They can provide efficient warmth in winter just as effectively as cooling in summer. Many homeowners use a wall-mounted unit as a cost-effective way to heat individual rooms.

How long does installation take?

A standard single split system is typically installed in one day. Multi-split systems covering multiple rooms may take a little longer depending on the number of indoor units and the layout of the property. We will give you a clear timescale during your survey visit.

How noisy is an air conditioning unit?

Modern Bosch Climate systems are designed to be very quiet. The Climate 7000i operates at as little as 24dB(A) indoors, which is quieter than a typical library. Outdoor units are also engineered for low noise, which matters if you have neighbours nearby.

What guarantee do I get?

All Bosch Climate systems are covered by the Worcester Bosch manufacturer’s guarantee. The exact terms vary by model. Your installer will confirm the guarantee period at the time of installation. Terms and conditions apply.

What areas do you cover?

We’re based in Whitley Bay, three miles north of Tynemouth, and cover the whole of North Tyneside and South Northumberland from here. Beyond Tynemouth itself, we install across Cullercoats, Whitley Bay, North Shields, Monkseaton, Wallsend and Cramlington, plus the wider NE postcodes. If you’re nearby and not sure, give us a call.

Can you install air conditioning in a Grade II listed Tynemouth property?

In many cases, yes, but it requires listed building consent for any external work and sometimes for internal pipework if it affects historic features. We always check listing status before the survey and walk through the proposed install with you so you can see exactly what would need consent. For some listed properties the right answer is a portable cooling solution rather than a fixed install, and we’ll be honest about that if it applies.

Do I need planning permission for an outdoor AC unit in Tynemouth Village?

Tynemouth Village Conservation Area covers most of the village core. Within the conservation area, planning consent is usually required for any external unit visible from the street. We check the conservation map and recommend a position that’s discreet or, where consent is needed, advise you on the application process. Outside the conservation area, permitted development usually applies and consent isn’t required.

Can you fit AC in a high-ceilinged Tynemouth townhouse without it looking out of place?

Yes. We use minimum-footprint Bosch Climate indoor units that sit discreetly against ceilings or in alcoves. For the highest-ceilinged rooms we’ll size the unit up to deliver effective cooling without running it at full output, which also keeps noise lower. The walk-through at the survey covers exactly where the indoor unit will sit.
