How efficient is a heat pump compared to a gas boiler?

A well-installed heat pump typically delivers around 3 to 4 units of heat for every 1 unit of electricity it uses. A gas boiler delivers less than 1 unit per unit of fuel burned. As the electricity grid continues to get greener, heat pumps become increasingly cost-effective over time.

Can I have a hybrid system?

Yes. Worcester Bosch offer hybrid systems that pair a heat pump with an existing gas boiler. This gives you the efficiency benefits of a heat pump while keeping the boiler as a backup for the coldest days. It can be a good halfway step for homes not yet ready to go fully electric.
